What a blessing our family is! We spent the weekend with Neil’s parents, his grandfather, and his aunt and uncle. We arrived on Friday and did some yard work for his uncle, because really? who doesn’t like earning spending money for your trip while helping family out? Plus it couldn’t have been a more gorgeous day! Alyssa went for a walk with her grandma and Neil’s aunt while we worked. I swear she’s going to tip that chair over if we are not careful! When she gets excited she jumps and man she is oh so strong! I love to watch her get stronger and stronger.
After all the driving, sunshine, working, etc… Alyssa and I were both quite sleepy. Neil and his parents went down to gamble a bit but Alyssa and I crashed out at 10PM. Neil came back in and got up to go to breakfast with his parents…. Alyssa and I? Slept until 9! Seriously? Best. Vacation. EVER! 11 hours of solid uninterrupted sleep? Is pretty much what any mother of a preschooler truly wants! She slept through the night on Saturday as well… but that’s getting ahead of myself!
On Saturday we made the trek to Oatman, AZ. If you have never been there and you get the chance… take it. It’s such a great little town. It was a bit busier than it had been in the past times I went but still not so busy that we couldn’t enjoy the fun times. There are the most amazing desert tortoises behind the little tattoo shop. Alyssa has seen smaller ones but these were just plain entrancing.
One of them even seemed as interested in Alyssa as she was in him… I assume him… but it may have been a girl. I was not about to flip the thing over to check LOL!
We walked around for a while and checked out a few shops. Alyssa’s glasses are broken (Soooomeone’s mom miiiiight have slammed them in the car door. Twice. Sidenote of a sidenote? If the door is having a hard time closing… make sure you are not slamming your daughter’s glasses in it 😉 ) so we picked her up a cute pair of sunglasses with the money she got from the Easter Bunny… who visits early when you travel with grandparents!
After Oatman we headed back to Neil’s uncle’s house until dinner. Dinner was a true treat! They took us out to the Prime Rib Room and it was divine! My picky daughter who could care less about food? Pretty much thought that the prime rib was the best tasting thing EVER! Ha! During dinner a man came by and she smiled at him. He left and came back with a Disney Princess toy for her. She was so excited. After dinner he and his wife came by the table and said goodbye. Such amazing kindness from total strangers. It turns out they actually carry a bag of toys and were handing them out to the little kids. It was one of those random acts of kindness that make you want to go out and pay it forward. 🙂 It’s just nice to know that pure generosity still exists!
Sunday morning we woke up to yet another beautiful day. The weather was great for the whole time we were visiting. Alyssa woke up to greet the day in the best attitude ever!
We had a delightful brunch with Neil’s parents and then headed back to town to visit with my family for a bit. What a way to round out the weekend! It was a great restful vacation and a wonderful holiday 🙂 I’m so grateful for both of our families! It’s not very often that people wind up with in-laws they can spend a whole weekend with! We truly lucked out 🙂
